Mankato, MN (February 12, 2018) – President and CEO of Discipline Advisors, Joseph G. Michaletz, and Minnesota State University, Mankato Dance Team Coach, Jen James, were awarded Grand Champion at the sixth annual Dancing with the Mankato Stars event on Saturday. The event raised $149,000 for the local Red Cross with the number expected to go a little higher, as donations often continue to trickle in after the event, according to southwest Minnesota Red Cross Executive Director, Leah Pockrandt.
“Both Jen and I believe it is an honor to be nominated as a dancing pair for this year’s Dancing with the Mankato Stars,” said Joseph G. Michaletz, President and CEO of Discipline Advisors. “I am excited for the opportunity to help raise funds for the American Red Cross.”
There were 13 groups of performers, 12 of them non-dancer “stars” from the Mankato community that were paired with experienced dance professionals. Michaletz and James performed a swing style dance.
In 2017, local Red Cross volunteers helped more than 100 people after more than 75 fires, collected 33,000 units of blood and sent nearly two-dozen local volunteers to help with hurricane disasters along the Gulf Coast.
